Sofrito Super Singles – Highlife Underground EP In Stock

Next up in the Sofrito Super Singles series is the Highlife Underground EP – celebrating the bassline heavy sound of ’80s Highlife.

On the A-side we’ve teamed up with new London producer DrumTalk for a remix of Ghana’s Mpese Mpese Band.
Initially released in 1986 the original track was an extended medley – the remix balances the swing of the original with heavy bass and chopped chords, bringing the track up to date while respecting the vibe of the original – an intense example of futuristic highlife that bridges the gap between Hackney and Accra

The flip sees the Sofrito crew present a killer groove courtesy of the Canadoes Dance Band, originally released on the Rogers All Stars label in 1982.  A minor key intro drops into bouncing drums, handclaps and a bubbling bassline that build and build into a deep and unrelenting groove…

“Au fait, le nouveau maxi sofrito est FAT !!!! Encore une belle référence !!!!
Emile Omar (Domino)

“Once again Sofrito steps up to defend the crown for amazing Tropical and African remixes. Both sides of this are burners, and I’m loving the debut remix by DrumTalk – a new alias from a seasoned artist of hard-yet-organic production. I road tested it at Afro Funké and it was a bonafied firestarter!”
– Jeremy Sole (KCRW, Afro Funké, theLIFT, Musaics – Los Angeles)
